MidCity CFO Funnels Personal Passion into Unique Community Service

It's not too often that the CFO of a company can take time out of his work day to hang out with zoo animals.

But that's exactly what happens when Bob Simcoe, CFO of Buffalo- based MidCity Office Furniture, volunteers his time, and company time, to serve as a Docent at The Buffalo Zoo.

After completing a 13-week training program, Simcoe, a Lancaster resident, joined a team of 120 animal-loving volunteer educators at the Zoo. Volunteers typically perform vital functions for the Zoo such as providing group tours, interpreting biofacts, and generally assisting in disseminating wildlife conservation messages.

Perhaps the most unique aspect of Simcoe's volunteer work is the fact that MidCity allows him to keep a flexible schedule, freeing up time during the work day to give back to the Zoo.

"Any time our employees have an opportunity to help out in the community, we're on board with that," says Kurt Amico, president of MidCity. "Bob is extremely passionate about his work with the Zoo and we're glad he's able to volunteer his time."

Outside of the Zoo and his 10 years of experience with MidCity, Simcoe participates in a local reptile club, enjoys wildlife photography, and even has his own cherry-headed red foot tortoise.

"I've always loved animals and this opportunity with The Zoo really allows me to pursue my passion," said Simcoe. "I'm also fortunate that MidCity allows me some flexibility with my schedule to help out a great cause."
